The Bihar government faced embarrassing moments in both the Houses of the state legislature on Tuesday when the health minister admitted blunder of a dead medical officer being promoted and appointed as district Civil Surgeon on Monday.
Health Minister Mangal Pandey while admitting the lapse on part of the officials of the health department said that the officials concerned had served show cause notice.
Opposition RJD members raised the issue in both the Houses and brandished the copies of the transfer orders of medical officers, including appointment of 12 civil surgeons yesterday. Vijay Samrat, MLA from Sheikhpura said the government promoted and transferred Dr Ram Narayn Ram, medical officer at Bikramganj Sadar Hospital as district Civil Surgeon of Sheikhpura.
Dr Ram had died of Corona last month, he said. He was supported by another MLA Lalit Kumar Yadav who quipped “good governance” was not visible.
Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha also commented it was a serious issue and the government must take note of the embarrassing anomaly.
In the legislative Council, RJD’s Subodh Kumar too raised the controversial issue and said, “How a dead officer can be transferred?” He said even the district medical officer of Rohtas had informed the state government about Dr Ram’s death due to Corona.
