Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi arrived at Port Moresby in the evening of Sunday after his successful Japan trip.
In a special gesture, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea James Marape received Prime Minister Modi at the airport. A salute of 19 guns and Guard of honour were accorded to the Prime Minister .
This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Papua New Guinea. The visit underscores the close friendship of India with the Pacific Island countries.
While receiving him at the airport, Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister James Marape displayed a surprising gesture by touching his feet. This was followed by a hug between the two counterparts, after which PM Modi was introduced to other officials.
