Police-Maoists encounter in Chhattisgarh; five bodies of rebels recovered so far

Security forces inflicted a heavy casualty on the Maoists in an encounter that took place on the border of Kanker-Narayanpur district in Chhattisgarh Saturday morning.

So far, five bodies of the rebels have been discovered during the search operation launched by the security forces in the encounter site. Two jawans were also injured in action.

Bastar Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P said a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG), Chhattisgarh police’s Special Task Force (STF) and Border Security Force (BSF) conducted a search operation in Northern Abujhmand area. The action came following an intelligence input about the presence of Maoists in the area.

The rebels opened fire as the security personnel raided the place. Two jawans of the DRG were injured even as the team took position and retaliated. “Intermittent firing is going on between the soldiers and the Maoists till the last available update in the afternoon,” Sundarraj said.

The security forces have so far discovered five bodies of rebels, Sundarraj said, adding that a huge cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the spot. It includes an automatic weapon also.

Both the injured jawans have been airlifted to Raipur for better medical care. The doctors attending on them said the condition of both the jawans was out of danger.
