Police nab prime accused of Chhattisgarh journalist’s murder case

The Bastar police late Sunday night nabbed the prime accused of Chhattisgarh journalist Mukesh Chandrakar’s murder case.

The 32-year-old journalist was brutally murdered and his body was discovered Friday evening from a sealed septic tank located in the court-yard of contractor Suresh Chandrakar in Bijapur district. Mukesh has carried a story exposing the irregularities in a road construction project that Suresh’s firm was executing in the district.

On Saturday, the Bastar police nabbed three persons in connection with the murder. They were identified as Ritesh Chandrakar, Mahendra Ramteke (Supervisor) and Dinesh Chandrakar. The mastermind and prime accused Suresh, was absconding after the incident.

Suresh and Ritesh are brothers. The slain journalist, Mukesh was also their cousin.

The Bastar police had constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the brutal murder. Besides, four separate parties were formed to trace and nab the prime accused.

Sources said the parties received a tip off that Suresh had taken shelter in Hyderabad. With the assistance of Telangana Police, Suresh was nabbed late Sunday night.
