The Chhattisgarh government has decided to abolish “Additional Excise Duty” taxed on foreign liquor that will slash the rates in the state.
A state government spokesperson said in the Excise Policy for the upcoming financial year 2025-26, it has been decided that the “Additional Excise Duty” levied on foreign liquor in the past, which is equal to 9.5 per cent of the liquor purchase rate of Chhattisgarh State Marketing Corporation, has been abolished.
This will reduce the retail sales rates of foreign liquor, especially medium range and high range liquor. It will also stop the smuggling of liquor from other states.
The spokesperson said due to the reduction in the additional duty, the retail sales rates of foreign liquor of different ranges are likely to come down by about Rs 40 to Rs 3000 per bottle.
