Presidents of three National Parties elected to Rajya Sabha

Presidents of three national parties JDU,BJP and RLM were elected to Rajya Sabha on Monday as all the five candidates of NDA won the biennial elections.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ( JDU), Nitin Navin (BJP) and Upendra Kushwaha (RLM) are presidents of national parties were declared elected by the returning officer, who is the assembly secretary. Nitish Kumar and Nitin got 44 votes each followed by Kushwaha and Ramnath got 42 votes in first preference counting of votes.

Shivesh Ram of BJP got elected in counting of second preference votes.

RJD ‘s sitting MP A D Singh with 37 votes was defeated. All the 202 legislators of NDA voted, but four members of Grand Alliance remained absent. Three Congress and one legislator of RJD did not come to vote.

Defeated candidate A D Singh alleged horse trading. Leader of opposition, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav claimed official machinery was misused to prevent four MLAs from voting.

Sanjay Jaiswal, former president of Bihar unit of BJP refuted the charge and claimed there was no cross voting.
