The Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA) has conferred its highest honour, the Fellow of the Association, on Dr. Pradeep K. Sinha, the Director of International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)- Naya Raipur (NR) in Chhattisgarh.
Considering Dr. Sinha’s contributions to the advancement of Science and Technology and Technical Education, the Executive Board of the AAIA decided to bestow the honour upon him after recognizing him among the top scientists of the world with outstanding achievements in the area of Distributed Computing.
Based in Hong Kong, the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA) is an academic, non-profit and non-governmental organization voluntarily formed by a large group of academicians worldwide. It aims to build a broad AI industry, bringing together scientists and entrepreneurs related to AI applications to develop AI industries, including the AI Ocean, AI Transportation, AI Computing, AI Communication, AI Robot, AI Education, AI Agriculture, AI Finance, AI Medicine, AI Energy, and dozens of AI application fields. The main mission of the AAIA is to strengthen scientists in the field of AI and other fields worldwide to promote the development and application of AI through academic research, academic exchanges, science education, science exhibitions, academic conferences, academic publications, summer/winter camps and other activities.
The fellows of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA) include some of the world’s eminent academicians who come from Stanford University, Princeton University, MIT, California Institute of Technology, Cornell University, Columbia University, University of Oxford, Imperial College London, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, University of Melbourne, Sydney University, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore National University, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and other universities, as well as the world’s top scientists in AI related fields from Google, Microsoft, IBM, Alibaba, Huawei, JD.com and other high-tech companies. The members of IIIT-NR are proud that with this new development, their institute joins the league of these top academic institutes.
Foreseeing the immense demand arising for experts in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in the near future, Dr. Sinha played a vital role in introducing new B. Tech. and M. Tech. programs in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) in IIIT-NR, in the year 2019, making IIIT-NR one of the first institutes in the country to have such a program. Today, this branch of engineering is the most sought after branch among the students seeking admission in IIIT-NR.
Dr. Sinha’s professional career spans more than thirty-five years, during which his technical contributions include building premier academic institutes; building supercomputing systems and facilities; developing healthcare products and solutions; innovating ideas leading to international patents; and authoring six books in the area of Computer Science & Engineering. Since 2015, Dr. Sinha has been deeply involved in building IIIT-Naya Raipur as a premier academic institute of the country. Earlier he was with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), where he had led national programs in the areas of Supercomputing, Grid Computing, and Health Informatics. Prior to joining C-DAC, Dr. Sinha was in Japan for ten years, working on cutting edge computing technologies. Dr. Sinha is a Fellow of IEEE, Fellow of Computer Society of India (CSI) and ACM Distinguished Engineer. He is also the recipient of several other awards and recognitions, including the “2011 VASVIK Research Award” and the “2013 Intel Pathfinder Award”.
On receiving this recognition, Dr. Sinha thanked the State Government for giving him the opportunity to set up a new technical institute in Chhattisgarh. He also thanked IIIT-NR members and all other stakeholders of IIIT-NR for their help and support in building IIIT-NR as a premier technical institute of the nation.
