Mrs Chhaya Mishra, Vice President of Advocates Association and a woman lawyer in Patna High Court on Tuesday thanked the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal for the new legislation to protect the advocates.
On Monday, Lok Sabha passed the Advocates (amendment) Bill which was approved by the Upper House during its monsoon session. Now, the Bill will take the form of an Act once it gets assent from the Rashtrapati.
Mrs Mishra said a new section 45 had been added and section 36 repealed to protect the interests of the practicing lawyers. Touts who used to influence the litigants, advocates and even judges would be out of the scene in judicial suspension system.
She said the provisions in the outdated 1879 and 1961 Acts have been removed with the passage of the Advocates (Amendment) Bill.
Mrs Chhaya Mishra appreciated the role of Sushil Kumar Modi, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on ministry of law and justice for taking interest on the issue. She said she had requested Modi in June for passage of the long awaited legislation.
