Prime Minister gets second dose of COVID-19 vaccine

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi today took second dose of COVID-19 vaccine. 

“Got my second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at AIIMS today. Vaccination is among the few ways we have, to defeat the virus. If you are eligible for the vaccine, get your shot soon,” the Prime Minister tweeted, soon after receiving the jab.

Modi took the shot of the “Made in India” Covaxin vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech on March 1.

Covaxin and Covishield, developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) in collaboration with Oxford University and AstraZeneca, are being used in the country’s vaccination drive that began on January 16 this year.

At the launch of the world’s largest Covid-19 vaccination program in January, which aims at eventually inoculating India’s 1.3 billion people against the coronavirus, Modi urged citizens not to pay heed to rumours regarding the safety of the vaccines. 

India’s daily new cases continue to rise. 1,26,789 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours.

Ten States including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Keralaand Punjab have shown a rise in the COVID daily new cases. 84.21 per cent of the new cases are reported from these 10 states.

Maharashtra has reported the highest daily new cases at 59,907. It is followed by Chhattisgarh with 10,310 while Karnataka reported 6,976 new cases.
