Prime Minister inaugurates new campus of biotic stress management in Chhattisgarh

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation the newly constructed campus of National Institute of Biotic Stress Management Raipur.

The National Institute of Biotic Stress Management (NIBSM) at Raipur has been established to take up the basic and strategic research in biotic stresses, develop human resources and provide policy support. The institute has started PG courses from the academic session 2020-21.

The Institute NIBSM, Raipur has a legal status of Deemed to be University, as approved by the cabinet, and came into existence in 2012. Mandate of the Institute bestows the responsibility to undertake basic and strategic research as well as generating quality human resources through education, in the specialised field of biotic stress management. The research and education are planned to be carried out through four different schools covering various facets of utilizing modern scientific tools to understand, educate and mitigate biotic stresses.

The four schools are: School of Crop Health Biology Research (CHBR), School of Crop Health Management Research (CHMR), School of Crop Resistance System Research (CRSR) and School of Crop Health Policy Support Research (CHPR)

Major emphasis was laid during previous EFCs/SFC during 2012-17 and 2017-20 to establish the resources in form of infrastructure and human resources. The master plan of the Institute (university) has been approved and the buildings of the first phase are near completion, that includes Administration, Library, Auditorium, school buildings and hostel.

With a present strength of 20 scientists (including Director and three Joint Directors), the Institute has started generating research leads in the field of Biotic Stress Management philosophy. The remaining cadre strength from a total of 60 Scientists and 140 administrative, technical and supporting staff, is at active consideration in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers welfare and Min of Finance and Expenditure, Govt. of India for post creation, and are expected soon to be filled. The institute is in active state of setting up MoUs with Institute and Universities of repute throughout the Country. To undertake Education mandate of the Institute, academic post-graduate sessions are proposed to commence from the month of August 2020 in various disciplines related to the science of Biotic Stress Management. A MoU has been signed with the premier Agricultural Research Institute, the IARI, New Delhi, which will induct the students for NIBSM Raipur following standard ICAR procedure, and the degree be provided by IARI.
