Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condemned the terrorist attack at New Orleans in United States of America (USA) and expressed condolences to the families of victims.

The attack took place during the New Year’s celebration on Wednesday. A man rammed a rented pickup truck into a crowd in New Orleans early New Year’s Day killing at least 15 and injured as many as 35.

The driver in the attack, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, was fatally shot by police at the scene. He was a US citizen and was associated with terrorist group that he endorsed in several videos he posted before the attack.

“We strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack in New Orleans. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. May they find strength and solace as they heal from this tragedy,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on X.

The FBI said it was investigating the attack as an act of terrorism. The agency claimed that the driver acted alone. An Islamic State group flag was found on the vehicle’s trailer hitch, it said.
