While the Taliban reaffirmed its control of Afghanistan after declaring victory over Panjshir, the restive mountain province where resistance forces had held out, small groups of female protesters went to the streets to express their resentment against the new regime.
TOLONews reported that hundreds of Afghans are protesting with slogans critical of Pakistan in Kabul today. A slogan chanted by protesters and written on signs: “Pakistan, Pakistan, leave Afghanistan.”
The short video clips of women raising anti-Pakistan slogans have gone viral on many social platforms. Pakistan is trying to consolidate its position in Afghanistan, projecting itself as the main “advisor” to the Taliban despite the latter downplaying its role. Experts said Pakistan was involved in the Panjshir bombing that put the resistance forces that had given a tough challenge to the Taliban fighters.
The leader of the Resistance Front, Ahmad Massoud, in an audio message on his Facebook page said the resistance forces were still present in Panjshir and continued to fight Taliban forces.
Meanwhile, Women along with men marched across the capital city of Kabul on Tuesday, in the latest of a string of protests in urban areas against the Taliban’s suppression of women’s rights. The demonstrators dispersed only when the protest threatened to turn violent, with Taliban fighters growing agitated. The women carried placards with messages like “We want political participation at all levels” and decrying gender segregation.
Women’s rights protests have taken place in recent days in Herat and Kabul, the capital. Women also took to the streets of Zaranj, near the border with Iran, demanding respect for civil liberties.
The Taliban forces had reportedly fired in air to disperse the people who have posed a new challenge for the new regime.
