Chandigarh, January 3
Just five days after joining the BJP, Sri Hargobindpur MLA Balwinder Laddi Sunday night rejoined the Congress, reportedly after getting assurance of ticket to contest the ensuing assembly elections.
Ahead of the Punjab Assembly poll early this year, Congress MLAs Fateh Jung Bajwa (Qadian) and Balwinder Singh Laddi (Sri Hargobindpur) on December 28 joined the BJP. Since they were unlikely to be given ticket by the Congress, they switched over to the saffron party.
Earlier, Guruharsahai MLA Rana Gumit Sodhi also joined the BJP, who was also among those who were likely to be denied the ticket.
Bajwa and Laddi were trapped in the internal clash simmering within the Punjab Congress. The Party President, Navjot Singh Sidhu who has locked horns with Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, has openly backed the candidature of the two sitting MLAs. Fearing that the Channi group will take it as a challenge and deny ticket to them, Bajwa and Laddi switched over to the BJP. Bajwa also fear uncertainty as his elder brother and former Punjab Congress Chief Pratap Singh Bajwa has claimed ticket to contest from Qadian.
After getting assurance for party ticket to the sitting MLA and absence of any another candidate from the seat is being cited as the reason for the move, Laddi rejoined the party in the presence of Punjab affairs incharge Harish Chaudhary and Deputy CM Sukhjinder Randhawa on Sunday night.
