The Punjab police have apprehended the main aide of the Khalistani supporter and chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’ Amritpal Singh from Sirhind on Saturday.
Joga Singh, the main aide of Amritpal Singh, was the one who brought radical preacher back to Punjab on March 27, Satinder Singh, SSP-rural of Amritsar, said. Joga, a Ludhiana resident, was in charge of a Dera in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier, another close aide of Amritpal Singh, Papalpreet Singh was arrested from Punjab’s Amritsar. He was nabbed in a joint operation conducted by Punjab Police and its counter-intelligence unit. On Friday, two men were arrested for allegedly harbouring Amritpal Singh.
The accussed were identified as Rajdeep Singh of Babak village in Hoshiarpur district and Sarbjit Singh of Jalandhar district. On Friday night, Rajdeep Singh and Sarbjit Singh were produced before the duty magistrate and placed on one-day police remand.
The radical preacher has been on the run since a police crackdown on his outfit Waris Punjab De on March 18. He has, however, appeared in two purported videos and an audio clip released on social media in the past few days. He eluded the police by switching vehicles and changing his appearance. He was still at large.
