New Delhi, April 8
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Sharad Yadav at his residence in New Delhi.
Speaking to reporters after meeting senior Opposition leader Sharad Yadav, who is now 74, Rahul Gandhi said all the parties opposed to the RSS and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should come together. The framework of such a joint Opposition front is being discussed and there is a need to develop it, he added.
The two leaders have reportedly discussed the framework of the joint front as Sharad Yadav’s party has recently merged with the RJD in Bihar. The veteran leader attributed the move to the campaign.
“Opposition unity is imperative across India to fight the BJP. My party’s merger with the RJD is the first step in that direction. We will now work to unite all the opposition parties as defeating BJP is a big challenge,” Yadav had said.
At a time when leadership debate has going on in the Congress, Sharad Yadav batted for Rahul Gandhi and said, “If somebody runs Congress round the clock, it is Rahul Gandhi. I think he should be made the party president. Only then can something big be done.”
Ahead of the 2024 national elections, opposition parties are trying to put up a front against the BJP.
