Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, continuous work is being done towards connecting the facilities of the citizens with digital and smart services.

In this sequence, the public area (including waiting hall) of the OPD registration counter at Late Shri Lakhiram Agrawal Smriti Government Medical College in Raigarh has been converted into a free Wi-Fi zone. The facility has been started for the first time in any government medical college in the state.

The innovative initiative has been implemented under the continuous guidance of Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal and Finance Minister O P Choudhary besides under the direction of Dean Dr Vineet Jain and Hospital Superintendent Dr M K Minj.

The aim of the free Wi-Fi facility is to overcome the problems faced by patients and their relatives coming to the OPD in digital registration through the Abha App. In this area under the MRD department, patients will now be able to get registration tokens directly from their mobile phones through the Abha App, which has made the process of getting a prescription more simple, fast and transparent.

Dr M K Minj said that the hospital management had received information that many patients were facing difficulty in registering with the Abha App due to mobile network problems. This problem persists due to the medical college being located in a hilly area. Keeping these technical obstacles in mind, it was decided to provide a free Wi-Fi facility in the OPD registration area. With this facility, patients and their relatives can now easily register with the Abha App without any network interruption, which will not only increase convenience but will also save time.

It is noteworthy that as per the instructions issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) on June 4, 2024, all medical colleges have to ensure that the registration of patients coming for OPD/IPD/emergency services is done only through Abha ID. To comply with this guideline, clear instructions have also been issued by the Commissioner, Medical Education, Chhattisgarh that to ensure the recognition of the medical college, all patients should be registered only through Abha App.

Keeping in view the guidelines and the convenience of the patients, free Wi-Fi facility has been formally started in the OPD area at Raigarh Medical College from today. The initiative puts Raigarh Medical College in the forefront of medical institutions with technological inclusion in Chhattisgarh and it is definitely a commendable and exemplary step towards the Digital Health Mission.
