Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) at Raipur led the team to crack down on the eateries encouraging illegal activities in the state capital.

Attired in civil dress, Raipur SSP Santosh Singh conducted the midnight operations at cafes and restaurants by posing himself as a customer. The illegal activities going on in the eating joints at the Chhattisgarh capital stunned the officer.

From the spots, he called the reinforcement and took stringent action against the violators. The SSP and his team raided many cafes and restaurants in the VIP road area where complaints were received, the officials of city police said.

The SSP raided the places past 1 am and himself stood witness as customer to liquor being served with any hesitation. Action was also taken against cafes and restaurants which were operating for more than the prescribed time.

Officers said action was taken against the accused under Excise Act, COTPA Act and prohibitory sections. An FIR was lodged against the manager as well as the owners.

The joints that floated the norms included Pintu Dhaba, Paji The Pind, Sardar The Kitchen, The Living Room Cafe, Area 36 Restaurant and Cafe and The Burn House Café, officers said, adding that 32 quarters of country liquor, 08 litres of English liquor, 13 litres of beer, 01 kg tobacco, 03 hookah pipes and 03 hookah pots were seized from the possession of the accused.

Five persons were apprehended for consuming liquor in public places while action was taken against a few accused under the COTPA Act. Six persons were booked under restrictive sections.

The Raipur police are writing a letter to the Excise Department to cancel the license. Though the officials have written letters earlier also. The campaign of the Raipur police will continue, the officers added.
