Former Lok Sabha member Ramen Deka will take oath as the tenth Governor of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday.
At a function organised in Darbar Hall of Raj Bhawan on Wednesday at 10.15 am, Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court Justice Ramesh Sinha will administer the oath to him. Deka succeeds Biswabhusan Harichandan.
The Governor-designate of Chhattisgarh, who hails from Assam, landed here on Tuesday. He was accompanied by his wife Ranee Dekakakaty. Deka was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the airport. He was given a guard of honour while the traditional folk dances and folk tunes highlighted the reception.
During his brief interaction, the Governor-designate said Chhattisgarh was a rapidly emerging state and would give new heights to development. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for appointing him as the Governor of Chhattisgarh. He said that he would play the role of facilitator between the Center and the State so that the development of the state was rapid.
Deka said that he would also work for cultural exchange between Assam and Chhattisgarh. He added that his top priority would be the development of the state.
Besides Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dr Raman Singh, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, state cabinet ministers and senior officials were present to receive and accord a rousing welcome to the Governor-designate.
