Lalu Prasad’s RJD on Wednesday became the single largest party in Bihar Assembly following revolt in the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) headed by Asaduddin Owaisi.
With four of the five AIMIM lawmakers switching side to RJD, the strength of Bihar’s main opposition party has increased to 80. The four MLAs who quit AIMIM included Mohammad Ijhar Asfi, Syed Rukumddin, Shahnawaj Alam and Ajmani Bainyani.
The MLAs, elected from Seemanchal area of bordering Bangladesh met Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha and submitted application to allow them to join RJD. Now, Akhtarul Iman, MLA from Kishankanj is the only legislator left with the AIMIM.
Till now, BJP with 77 MLAs was the largest party in the House after four members of Vikash Sheel Insaan Party had joined BJP two months back. JDU is the third largest party with 45 members. JDU had also admitted LJP, BSP and two independents earlier.
Tejashwi had himself driven the vehicle with four MLAs from 10, Circular Road bungalow of Lalu Prasad to state assembly. Tejashwi claimed a bigger game would take place soon and RJD-led government would be formed.
There are 19 MLAs of Congress and 15 of Left parties in Bihar. If they join the RJD led alliance, the figure would reach 115, seven short of majority in 243 members assembly.
