Raipur, December 3

The Chhattisgarh government today changed Superintendents of Police (SPs) in five districts with one paying the cost for failing to handle communal riots while another for allegedly passing remarks against seniors.

In a reshuffle effected Friday evening, the state government shifted eight Indian Police Service (IPS) officials. Deepak Kumar Jha (IPS batch 2007), posted as SP Bilaspur, was shifted to a comparatively smaller district of Balodabazar-Bhatapara. He would pass-on the baton to Parul Mathur (2008), who has been transferred from Gariyaband where she was posted as SP.

Indira Kalyan Elesela, 2011-batch-IPS official, has been shifted from SP Balodabazar-Bhatapara to 11th Battalion of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) Janjgir-Champa. Mohit Garg (2013) has been removed from the post of SP Kawardha and shifted to 14th Battalion of CAF in Balod.

Lal Umed Singh will be the new police chief of Kawardha. Arvind Kujur (2010) has been transferred from SP Bemetara to 3rd Battalion in Durg. Dharmendra Singh Chavai and Jhadu Ram Thakur will be the new SP of Bemetara and Gariyaband respectively.

Of the affected SPs, two had been shifted after reportedly landing in controversy. While one has purportedly accepted the police failure in handling the communal riots that rocked one of the districts, other hogged the headlines after reportedly passing remarks against seniors during an alleged conversation with a constable.
