Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has given instructions to the authorities concerned to complete the construction work of 15,000 houses earmarked for the surrendered Maoists and affected families.
The project has to be executed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The instruction came at the review meeting held today at the Police Headquarters, Nava Raipur under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai to review the progress of operations going on against the rebels.
Senior officials of the state including Deputy Chief Minister and Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma were present on the occasion. The evaluation of efforts to eradicate Left Wing Extremism (LWE) and future strategies were discussed in the meeting.
The Chief Minister directed to complete the construction work of 15,000 houses for surrendered rebels and Maoist-affected families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Sai expressed confidence that Chhattisgarh would soon be LWE-free with collective efforts and public participation. The priority of the government is to improve the living standards of local communities and achieve new heights of development.
Sai said in the meeting that the government had fought a decisive battle against LWE in 11 months. Referring to the Union Home Minister’s resolve to end the menace by March 2026, he said that they had to prepare effective strategies in the same direction. The Chief Minister said that there was a need to further intensify the public awareness campaign for surrendered rebels. The people of Bastar region now wanted to get rid of LWE and move towards development, a glimpse of which was also seen in the recently concluded Bastar Olympics.
In the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister and Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma said that the state government was taking concrete action to end LWE. He emphasized on connecting the civil society with the campaign and intensifying the efforts being made for the surrender of Maoists. Sharma emphasized the need to break the financial network of extremists and said that all possible measures would be taken to achieve the goal.
In the meeting, expansion of the security grid, setting up of new camps in LWE-affected areas, rehabilitation and housing schemes for surrendered rebels and joint action plan were discussed among other topics.
