When a group of Rajasthan legislators demanded meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, alarm bell rang in the camp of Sachin Pilot who is likely to return to the Congress soon.
The 100 MLAs, who demonstrated their loyalty to Congress and stood firmly with chief minister Ashok Gehlot, are playing spoilsports for Pilot who raised a revolt with a handful of law makers in his bag.
The MLAs approached general secretary in charge of Rajasthan Avinash Pandey and Gehlot demanding a meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The development had further complicated crises within the party.
The 100 MLAs are resented with the party high command for its “casual handling” of the crisis and “entertaining” Pilot without taking the Gehlot camp into confidence. The exhorted decision about Pilot’s return should not be taken without hearing their version of the unseemly developments.
A senior leader said rehabilitating Pilot as deputy chief minister or the state (Congress) chief looks very difficult as of now, In fact, no commitment had been given to him and the return would be unconditional.
The senior Congress leaders including party general secretary K C Venugopal are trying to convince the legislators. “I have told them forgive and forget in the larger interest of the party and the country,” Gehlot said, adding that it is natural for the MLAs to be upset.
Even Pilot is aware that his homecoming will not be a rousing red carpet welcome. After returning to Jaipur, Pilot stayed at home, meeting his supporters instead of calling on the chief minister.
