SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Modex unit, Blast Furnace 8 (BF-8), named Mahamaya has clocked a significant milestone by achieving 17 million tons of hot metal production on 23rd February 2025.
The journey from 16 million to 17 million tons was completed in just 126 days, setting a new record for the fastest one-million-ton milestone, surpassing the previous best for this achievement which was 133 days. The next milestone target has been set to achieve the next 1 million tons in less than 125 days.
Since its commissioning on 02nd February 2018, SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s BF-8 has reached the 17 million tons milestone in just 2,579 days, outperforming its sister units of similar capacity. It is worth mentioning that the 17 million tons hot metal productionmilestone by Blast Furnace-5 of SAIL-Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was achieved in 2,674 days, while the BF-5 of SAIL-IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) achieved the same milestone in 2,985 days.
With this the BF-8 at Bhilai Steel Plant has achieved the 17 million ton milestone 95 days ahead of BF-5 at RSP and 406 days ahead of BF-5 at ISP.
