Bhilai, November 15

A major infrastructural upgrade was accomplished at SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant with the successful commissioning of a new 600 mm diameter auxiliary CO gas line for Machine-2 in the Sintering Plant-3 (SP-3) area.

The facility was inaugurated on 15th November 2025 by Rakesh Kumar, ED (Works). Present on the occasion were Tapas Das Gupta, CGM I/c (Iron Zone), B K Behera, CGM (M&U), P K Singh, CGM (Mechanical) and Sajeev Varghese, CGM (OHP & SP-3).

The project was successfully executed through the coordinated efforts of multiple departments, including EDD, Energy Management, CED, PLEM, Survey, Instrumentation and SP-3 Collectives. Their synergy ensured that the job was completed safely, within schedule, and with high technical quality.

Commending the teams for this achievement, Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director (Works) said that the newly installed auxiliary gas line would significantly enhance the stability, reliability and safety of CO gas supply to Machine-2, thereby contributing positively to the plant’s overall production efficiency.

Machine-2 had long been facing operational challenges due to frequent choking, irregular gas flow, and low pressure in the existing CO gas line. To achieve a permanent and technically sound solution, the installation of a new 600 mm CO gas line was identified as critical. The newly commissioned line, measuring approximately 250 metres, replaces the older 300 mm line, which has now been retained as a standby CO gas line for future contingencies.

At SP-3, the execution of the project was carried out in a planned and organised manner under the guidance of I V Ramana, GM, A K Bedekar, GM, R D Sharma, GM, M U Rao, DGM, D K Gupta, AGM, Vikas Piprani, AGM, Om Namah Sharma, Sr. Mgr., Jitesh Shahni, Sr. Mgr., Arunesha Sharma, Sr. Mgr., Vipin Maurya, Sr. Mgr., S K Patil, Sr. Mgr., V K Choudhary, Dy. Mgr., and Ajit Sahu, Asst. Mgr.

The project also received continuous support from Mujeeb Hussain, GM I/c (EDD), Meji Major Singh, GM, Ms. Uma Katoch, GM I/c (Environment Management), B N Jha, GM (CED) and Ramani Subramanian, GM (EMD), whose guidance ensured smooth and coordinated implementation across departments.
