The Plate Mill Team of the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), an arm of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), executed the challenging task of repairing Mill’s Plate Turn Over Device (PTOD)-2 in 2 days.
The PTOD in the Plate Mill Finishing zone, is a crucial device that plays a pivotal role in ensuring the quality of Mill’s products.
Its primary function is to facilitate the inspection of every plate’s top and bottom surface after turning it over. The device is so indispensable that two PTOD’s are ensured at a time, for uninterrupted production. PTOD-1 is the workhorse, while PTOD-2 is kept as a backup.
During the recent routine inspection, the bearing on the Output Shaft of PTOD-2 was found damaged, and non-availability of both PTOD’s could have hampered the Mill’s production. However, under the guidance of R K Bisare, CGM (Plate Mill), the Team successfully replaced the damaged bearing in the output shaft of the driver reducer of PTOD-2.
Plate Mill team led by Navneet Saha DGM (Mechanical Finishing), and consisting of Shiv Kumar Sahu, Master Technician and contract workers Jitendra Verma, Vibhishan Nishad, Loknath Bisai, Kamruddin, Shiv kr Yadav, Baldeo Nawrenge, Nomesh Rao and Chunni lal, successfully executed the task in two days.
R K Bisare, CGM (Plate Mill) felicitated the entire team at a programme held at Plate Mill Conference Hall in presence of Sanjay Tripathi GM (Electrical), Sanjay Kumar GM (Mechanical), Sudhakar Jampala GM (Mechanical), H K Bahrupi GM (Operation), and Sunil Mitra GM (Operation).
The execution of this task by the Plate Mill Team was made possible by continuous monitoring and hard-work and strict adherence of safety standards. This highlights the capability of Plate Mill Collective to overcome challenges and to maintain the highest standards of production efficiency.
