SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant has recorded best ever hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel production for the April to January ten month period in any fiscal year so far.
The plant’s blast furnaces recorded highest ever hot metal production of 4.91 million tonnes in April 23 to Jan 24 period of current fiscal year, surpassing previous best of 4.77 MT in corresponding period of fiscal year 2010-11. This included highest ever production of 2.20 MT by the plant’s largest blast furnace, BF 8 surpassing previous best of 2.11 MT recorded in corresponding period of 2021-22.
Highest ever crude steel production of 4.65 MT by Steel Melting Shop 2 (SMS 2) and SMS 3 was recorded in April 23 to Jan 24 period of current fiscal year, surpassing previous best of 4.45 MT in corresponding period of fiscal year 2010-11. Modex unit, SMS 3 recorded best ever total cast steel production at 2.82 MT and best ever cast billet production of 1.92 MT as against previous best of 2.48 MT and 1.51 MT, respectively in corresponding April to Jan period of previous fiscal year 2022-23.
Highest ever saleable steel production of 4.33 MT was recorded in April 23 to Jan 24 period of current fiscal year, surpassing previous best of 3.93 MT in corresponding period of fiscal year 2022-23. The Plant registered growth of 11.3 per cent in hot metal production as compared to corresponding April to Jan period of previous fiscal year 2022-23. Growth of 10.2 per cent was registered both in crude steel and saleable steel production over corresponding April to Jan period of previous fiscal year 2022-23.
In the area of long rails production, Modex unit Universal Rail Mill recorded best ever production of 6.67 lakh T of long rails during April 23 to Jan 24 period as against previous best of 6.13 lakh T in corresponding period of 2022-23. Rail & Strl Mill too recorded its best ever long rails production of 1.37 lakh T as against previous best of 1.23 lakh T recorded in fiscal year 2012-13. Total long rails production at 8.05 lakh tonnes has been the best ever as against previous best of 7.34 lakh T in corresponding period of 2022-23.
Modex unit Bar & Rod Mill too recorded best ever production of 8.26 lakh T during April 23 to Jan 24 period as against previous best of 6.75 lakh T in corresponding period of 2022-23. Plate Mill recorded its highest ever production of high tensile plates at 2.28 lakh tonnes as against previous best of 1.94 lakh T in corresponding period of 2016-17.
The Plant recorded highest ever loading of 4.30 MT of Saleable Steel for despatches during April 23 to Jan 24 period of current fiscal year, surpassing previous best of 3.89 MT recorded in corresponding April to Jan period of previous fiscal year 2021-22. This included loading of 2.27 MT for Direct Despatches to customers as against previous best of 2.18 MT recorded in corresponding April to Jan period of previous fiscal year 2022-23.
