Raipur, February 18
Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), an arm of state-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), had recorded its highest Hot Metal production of 18,287 Tonnes from its Blast Furnaces on Wednesday, surpassing the previous best high of 18,208 Tonne of hot metal produced on January 14, 2021.
Production of 18,287 T of hot metal is the highest daily hot metal production by any steel plant in SAIL so far.
The graph of performance of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant has been steadily rising in the third quarter of current fiscal. On January 14, 2021, BSP trounced its own record of hot metal production with an output of 18,208 T as against 18,182 T produced on August 14, 2010. Now, the bar of performance has been raised higher with the Blast Furnaces recording a new high of 18,287 T on February 17, 2021.
Besides achieving record levels of hot metal production, several interventions have been taken to improve performance of Steel Melting Shop 3, Bar & Rod Mill, SMS 2, Ore Handling Plants, Refractory Materials Plants, Sinter Plants and several other associated shops. Rolling of blooms from SMS 2 to billets in Rail & Strl Mill to enhance availability of billets for Merchant Mill is another initiative that would help meet the rising demand for TMT 32 bars in the market.
On February 11, 2021, the Plant’s Modex unit Steel Melting Shop-3 had recorded highest daily production of 54 heats, surpassing its previous record of 53 heats on 2nd Feb 2021. On 15th Feb 21, SMS-3 recorded the longest sequence of 21 heats from its Caster 2 along with record casting of 54 Heats in the day for the second time during the month.
Another Modex unit, Bar & Rod Mill recorded new highs of rolling billets in TMT 32 for three consecutive days. On February 15, 20 21, BRM rolled 974 billets (1968 Tonnes of TMT 32 bar) as against the previous best of 576 billets (1164 T) on February 14, 2021 and 523 billets (1062 T) rolled on 13th Feb 21. RMP 3, also a Modex unit too, has been setting new records. RMP 3 set a new day record of 1244 T on February 15 surpassing previous best of 1208 T on February 12, 2021. RMP 3 had earlier set a new record of 1089 T on February 9, 2021, surpassing previous best of 1083 T on March 5, 2020.
The Plant’s Rail Mills have also crossed the cumulative 1 Million Tonne mark in annual prime rail production for Fiscal Year 2020-21 on Wednesday. The Plant’s new and modern Universal Rail Mill has already surpassed the best ever annual prime rail production of 5,38,190 T achieved in last Fiscal Year 2019-20. This feat has been achieved on February 15, 2021, that is, 44 days ahead as compared to last fiscal year.
