SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant Blast Furnace, SMS-3 and Plate Mill create new records

Blast Furnaces, SMS-3 and Blast Furnace-8 and Plate Mill of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant have set new records in production as well as in techno-economics.

SAIL-BSP Blast Furnaces achieved the highest ever monthly production of 5,35,312 tonnes of hot metal till 30 January 2023, surpassing the previous best monthly record of 5,19,819 tonnes of hot metal in March 2021.

In this sequence, a new record was created in Blast Furnaces by increasing the quantity of daily Coal Dust Injection (CDI). By 30th January 2023, a new record of highest monthly coal dust injection of 137 kg/Tonne was set, beating previous best record of 92 kg/T in Jan 2021.

Similarly, success was achieved in reducing the Coke Rate, an important techno economic parameter. The previous record of coke rate at 434 kg per tonne of hot metal made in January 2021 was bettered in Jan 2023 with monthly coke rate of 431 kg per tonne of hot metal recorded by blast furnaces by 30th Jan 23.

Blast Furnace 8 called Mahamaya too achieved monthly coal dust injection rate record of 158 kg/Tonne uptill 30th January 2023, which is much more than 152 kg/T CDI rate achieved in December 2022..

Similarly, Steel Melting Shop-3 (SMS-3), a Modex unit of Bhilai Steel Plant achieved the highest monthly production of 2,93,688 tonnes of crude steel by 30th January 2023, surpassing its previous record of 2,86,195 T of crude steel in November 2022.

Another monthly record was set by Plate Mill by dispatching 1,16,834 tonnes of plates till 30 January 2023, surpassing previous best monthly record of  1,16,030 T in January 2011.
