SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant has created new records in production and techno-economics in the first six months of first half (H1) period of current financial year 2024-25 (FY25) ended September30, 2024.
The Plant recorded its best ever finished steel production of 23,16,659 Tonnes as against previous best of 23,13,803 T in corresponding H1 period of last fiscal year 2023-24.
Best ever performances for any April to September period have been recorded in several other areas of production as well. Best ever production of 4.81 lakh tonnes was recorded by Bar & Rod Mill in April to September period, surpassing previous best of 4.63 lakh tonnes in corresponding April to Sept period of 2023-24. Steel Melting Shop 3 has recorded highest production of 1.71 million tonnes (MT) of cast steel in April to September H1 period of current fiscal year as against previous best of 1.69 MT in H1 period of last fiscal 2023-24. This included best ever production of 1.15 MT of cast billets, surpassing previous best of 1.12 MT in H1 period of 2023-24.
Production of 260 metre long rails at 4.91 lakh tonnes has been the best ever as against previous best of 4.72 lakh tonnes in corresponding period of last fiscal year 2023-24. Total prime rails production from both Universal Rail Mill and Rail & Strl Mill at 5.95 lakh tonnes has also been the best ever for any H1 period, surpassing previous best of 5.94 lakh tonnes in corresponding period of last FY 2023-24.
Total Loading of 260 metre Long Rails for Indian Railways at 4.89 lakh tonnes has also been the highest for any H1 period, surpassing previous best loading of 4.83 lakh tonnes in CPLY. Significantly, Rail & Strl Mill has recorded highest ever loading of 91,842 Tonnes of 260 metre long rails in H1 period of current fiscal year as against previous best of 75,426 T of long rails loaded in H1 period of 2014-15.
In the area of techno-economics, highest ever Coal dust injection rate at 137 kg per tonne of hot metal produced was recorded by the Plant’s blast furnaces for April – Sept H1 period, as against previous best of 114 kg/THM recorded in H1 period of FY 23-24. The Plant’s Blast Furnaces also recorded best ever Coke rate of 434 kg per tonne of hot metal produced as against previous best of 448 kg/THM recorded in H1 period of FY 2020-21.
