Raipur, July 11
For the first time in the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), its Chhattisgarh-based entity Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) has sold lime to another steel plant.
A BSP spokesperson informed that Monday, the first batch of 20,000 Tonnes of lime for NMDC’s Nagarnar Steel Plant in Jagdalpur was flagged off from Lime and Dolo Calcination Plant (LDCP) Department’s Refractory Materials Plant (RMP)-3.
RMP 3 is a new and modern unit commissioned in June 2018 as part of SAIL-Bhilai’s Modex Programme. The initiative of supplying lime to NMDC’s plant will not only ensure maximum utilisation of resources at RMP 3, it will also earn profits for the Plant. Lime is highly hydroscopic and hence special care was taken for proper packaging of lime supplied.
The primary function of RMP 3 is the calcination of flux, which is supplied to BSP’s Steel Melting Shop 3 for use in steel purification. To meet the daily demand in steelmaking, the availability of proper flux, such as lime and calcined dolomite is essential. RMP 3 produces the best quality lime in SAIL. Lime supplied by BSP will help support stabilisation of steel making process for higher production at the NMDC steel plant.
RMP 3 is equipped with five Vertical PFR-type gas-fired kilns and state of the art technology, making it the most economical choice. Lime is therefore being supplied to NMDC plant at a reasonable price. It is worth mentioning that RMP 3 has also provided technical support to ISP Plant of SAIL for quality improvement of lime.
