As the month of June 2023 came to an end, several new records of production were set by SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant in several areas of production as well as productivity parameters on 30th June 2023.
The Plant’s finishing mills including Universal Rail Mill, Merchant Mill, and Wire Rod Mill, along with Coke Oven & Coal Chemical Department have set several new day and shift records.
MERCHANT MILL
Plant’s Merchant Mill has created history by setting new records in production of Angle 75 on three consecutive days. On 28th June 2023, Merchant Mill achieved record day production of 2225 tonnes and record shift production of 838 tonnes in Angle 75×8 profile. On 29th June 2023, the Mill set another record with a day production of 2202 tonnes and a shift production of 862 tonnes in Angle 75×10 profile. On 30th June 2023, the Mill surpassed this record as well by achieving a day production of 2342 tonnes in Angle 75×10 profile.
WIRE ROD MILL
The Plant’s Wire Rod Mill too has set new production and dispatch records. Rolling plain wire rod coils in combination of 6,6,5.5 mm, the Mill surpassed the previous best production record of 1598T in the same combination on 26th March 2023. On 30th June 2023, the Mill scaled new heights by producing 1603 Tonnes, thereby serving a new day record. The month of June 2023 has also witnessed a new dispatch record of wire rod coils produced through SMS 3 route. Surpassing the previous dispatch record of 39064 T created in March 2019, Wire Rod Mill set a new monthly record by dispatching 40693 T in June 2023. Direct dispatch of 25179 T by WRM in June 2023 is also the best ever monthly record, surpassing the previous best of 19550 T in Sept 2019.
UNIVERSAL RAIL MILL
Another record was set by Universal Rail Mill, the Modex unit of SAIL Bhilai Steel Plant, that rolls out the world’s longest 130-metre rail as a single piece. The Mill has also recorded an ever best day rolling record on 30th June 2023 by rolling 416 blooms, with support from all the associated Departments.
COKE OVEN & COAL CHEMICAL DEPARTMENT
On the other hand, Plant’s Coke Oven & Coal Chemical Department (CO&CCD) has also recorded a best ever pushing of 794 eq ovens (23831) on 30th June 2023, surpassing previous best of pushing 763 ovens in June 2010. Another best ever coke pushing record was also made on the same day by CO&CCD by pushing 801 eq ovens (72850), against the previous best of pushing 771 eq ovens (70197) in 2010-11.
These remarkable achievements were made with collective efforts and coordination of employees of the respective departments. Plant personnel worked together with utmost dedication and completed given tasks on time, under the leadership of the concerned Departmental Heads, resulting in improved productivity and breaking of previous records.
The Bhilai Steel Plant Management has congratulated the URM, WRM, MM and CO&CCD collective for these achievements, along the Research & control Lab team of the Plant and other central and supporting agencies and departments for the superlative performances recorded on the day.
