SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant has scripted new records in August 2025 with its best-ever monthly performance across several production and dispatch parameters.

The plant’s Rail & Structural Mill (RSM), Universal Rail Mill (URM), Bar & Rod Mill (BRM), and Plate Mill recorded outstanding achievements, further consolidating BSP’s role as the nation’s leading steel producer and infrastructure enabler.

Record 99,889 tonnes of total long rail production was achieved, surpassing its previous best of 98,402 tonnes achieved in March 2024. At RSM, 18,845 tonnes of long rails were rolled, exceeding the earlier record of 18,241 tonnes set in March 2024. Plant’s URM also made remarkable strides, producing 84,041 tonnes of Prime Rails against its previous best of 83,046 tonnes (June 2025), and 81,044 tonnes of Long Rails against the earlier record of 80,644 tonnes made in June 2025.

In the steel segment, BSP recorded its highest-ever monthly saleable steel production of 5,19,627 tonnes, surpassing the previous record of 5,03,219 tonnes achieved in January 2023. In dispatches, BSP also achieved all-time highs with 18,812 tonnes of long rails loaded at RSM (earlier best 18,407 tonnes in March 2024) and 5,08,802 tonnes of saleable steel dispatches, surpassing the previous record of 4,89,180 tonnes set in January 2023.

The Bar & Rod Mill (BRM) also recorded an exceptional performance, achieving 90,550 tonnes of dispatches in August 2025, marking the “best-ever August dispatch” in its history. Earlier, in July 2025, BRM had created records by dispatching 6,030 tonnes on July 31, the highest-ever single-day dispatch, and 1,01,200 tonnes during July, its best-ever monthly dispatch.

The Plate Mill too registered a historic performance, setting new benchmarks in both production and dispatches in August 2025. It achieved a production of 1,20,448 tonnes, surpassing its earlier best of 1,20,333 tonnes in August 2024. In dispatches, the mill achieved 1,27,427 tonnes, crossing the previous record of 1,16,963 tonnes in August 2024.

This achievement was made possible through extensive shipping yard mapping and adoption of advanced IT-enabled systems. With tablet-based quick documentation processes introduced by the C&IT team, dispatches were made faster and more accurate.

Despite challenges in rake availability, the Plate Mill ensured record road dispatches of 10,980 tonnes, the first time in a decade that road dispatches crossed the five-digit mark. In August, plates were dispatched to around 147 customers, including 10,000 tonnes to project clients, 4,500 tonnes to BHEL, 613 tonnes to shipyards, and 5,000 tonnes to MSME customers.
