Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), an arm of state-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), created a new day record in hot metal production with the blast furnaces producing 18,320 Tonne (T) of hot metal on February 28, 2021.
Interestingly, the company trounced the old highest output of 18,287 T recorded in the same month on February 17, 2021 and setting a new benchmark in SAIL. It may be recalled that production of 18,287 T of hot metal on February 17 was the highest daily hot metal production by any steel plant in SAIL.
The blast furnaces also recorded best-ever PCM (pig casting machine) pouring of 2006 T on February 28, 2021, surpassing 1500 T poured on December 19, 2020. The Plant’s blast furnaces also recorded the best-February production of 4,45,762 T of hot metal, surpassing 4,43,715 T produced in February 2008, a leap-year.
Refractory Materials Plant 3 that has created new day records in recent weeks has also recorded best-ever monthly production of 31,509 T in February 21 surpassing previous best of 28184 T in January 21.
The Plant has also recorded its best ever February despatches of 260 metre rails by despatching 67 numbers of rakes in Feb 2021. The Plant’s SP 3 has also recorded its best February with production of 4,25,899 T of sinter, surpassing previous best 3,68,105 T achieved in February-2019 (Non leap-year).
The Plant’s Sinter Plant 3 has also recorded its best ever average daily production of 1,52,11 T in February 2021 surpassing previous best 1,50,44 T achieved during January-2021. Sinter Plant 2 has also recorded its best ever daily production of 9045 T on February 28, 2021, surpassing previous best of 9010 T on February 26. It is worth mentioning that after a gap of three years, SP 2 has achieved daily production above 9000 T. Prior to its February 26 production of 9010 T, SP 2’s best ever production had been 9026 T recorded on April 3, 2018.
The Plant’s Coke Ovens & Coal Chemicals Dept also recorded the best ever pushing of 797 ovens on February 28, 2021 as against the previous best of 793 ovens on 1st Nov 2009.
MRD also continued its superior performance and recorded an all-time best performance by dispatching more than 3,23,438 tonnes of material in the current financial year 2020-21. It is noteworthy that The department dispatched 49,601 tonnes of material in the month of February, 2021 and registered a growth of 147 percent in the record of 20,020 tonnes established in February 2012. It is to be noted that MRD has been recording the best monthly record of dispatches of materials sold continuously for the last five months since October 2020.
Director In-charge SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant Anirban Dasgupta, Executive Director (Works) Rajiv Sehgal and other senior officers of the Plant have congratulated Blast Furnaces, RMP 3, Sinter Plants, Coke Ovens, MRD and Rail making teams along with members of all associated departments for the record making spree in the month of February 2021.
