SAIL-Bhilai’s Oxygen train to Tamil Nadu

The first Oxygen Express left Bhilai for Tamil Nadu with four special ISO containers filled with 73.17 Tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen from SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant on Saturday.

The containers loaded onto Indian Railway wagons were despatched from the Railway Yard near Bhilai 3 and Charoda railway stations. The LMO is being supplied to Medical Service Corporation, Tamil Nadu.

The special containers received at Bhilai Steel Plant were filled with LMO and then loaded onto trailers last night. After the trailers reached the railway yard, the containers were unloaded from trailers and then again loaded onto railway wagons with the help of cranes. 

Liquid Medical Oxygen supplied from Bhilai Steel Plant has proved to be a lifeline for numerous COVID patients in different hospitals, not only in Bhilai and other districts of Chhattisgarh, but for several other states as well including Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. This is the first time that LMO is being supplied from SAIL-Bhilai to the state of Tamil Nadu.

The total volume of LMO supplied in tankers to different destinations in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and other states by SAIL-Bhilai so far from August 2020 to May 21 is 30,542 Tonnes. In the month of May 21 alone, 9126 T of LMO has been supplied in tankers to different destinations.
Medical Oxygen supplied from Bhilai Steel Plant supplied in cylinders has been critical in saving lives of thousands of patients suffering from COVID or other critical ailments in the Plant’s JLN Hospital & RC.

 As many as 994 oxygen cylinders have been supplied to JLN Hospital in May 21 alone. Bhilai Steel Plant has also met emergency requirement of medical oxygen cylinders of district administration for other hospitals. In May 21, 731 oxygen cylinders supplied to district administration. Additionally, 1563 oxygen cylinders were despatched to Madhya Pradesh.
