Director In-charge of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) Anirban Dasgupta and Executive Directors addressed a cross section of employees through a web interaction on the occasion of New Year today, emphasizing on safe and smart working to achieve desired targets and restore the glory of the plant.
At the outset, Dir I/c (BSP) administered the Safety oath and dedicated the Safety schedule to employees of BSP. Earlier in the morning hours, the Safety Flag was hoisted at Ispat Bhavan by Dasgupta and at Sanyantra Bhavan by ED (Works) Rajeev Sehgal.
During the large group interaction, Anirban Dasgupta and Executive Directors including Manas Biswas, ED (Mines & Rowghat), S K Issar, ED I/c (M & HS), Rakesh, ED (MM), Rajeev Sehgal, ED (Works), A K Bhatta, ED (Projects) S K Dubey, ED (P & A) and Suresh Rangani, CGM I/c (F & A) greeted employees on the new year and urged them to adhere to SoPs and SMPs and make 2021 an accident-free year.
Greeting employees on the occasion of New Year, Dasgupta extended his best wishes to all and said the management is indebted to the families of employees at Bhilai and all the Mines who worked efficiently in challenging times due to the support of their family members.
“Our target must be Zero accidents in 2021. We must adhere to a robust Safety culture and religiously follow safe procedures at work,” he said.
Elaborating on targets for the month of Jan. 2021, Director I/c, SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant said they must work to surpass the best ever monthly record of 5.04 lakh T of Hot metal in the month. The target for each SMS 2 and SMS 3 is 2.5 lakh tonnes, he said. SMS 3 must strive to achieve 50 heats per day on Jan 21 and months to come, he added.
Bar & Rod Mill must surpass 60,000 T production in January 2021, he said. Plate Mill’s target for Jan 21 is to achieve 1.10 lakh tonnes. The Coke Ovens team must also work to enhance the oven pushing route. In Q4 of the current financial year, we must focus on achieving rated capacity of Modex units and focus on our demand for asymmetric rails, Dasgupta said.
Among the other priorities that Dasgupta spelt out were the need to further reduce inventory levels in our Plant and rationalize consumption of spares. They must adopt environment friendly measures, modernize our Wire Rod Mill and Merchant Mill.
“We are currently going through a transition phase after having switched over from SMS 1 – BBM route to producing steel for these older mills from SMS 2 and SMS 3,” he said, adding that the present market scenario presents a window of opportunity and they must together work to encash on this and restore the glory of Bhilai Steel Plant.
To support higher production levels, our iron ore Mines must produce at the monthly rate of 1.465 million tonnes, he said. The Ministry of Steel, State Govt agencies and departments and district administration here as well as in the districts where our Mines are located have supported us in all our endeavours.
While the district police administration continues to support Bhilai Steel Plant management, they are also thankful to the security agencies including BSF and SSB who have supported SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant in ensuring safety of personnel and equipment in Mining areas.
ED (Works) Shri Rajeev Sehgal stated that they have a defined path ahead. “We must follow the highest standards of Safety and Housekeeping with zero tolerance to accidents. We must continue to perform at higher levels in extraordinary and challenging circumstances,” he said.
Rakesh, ED (MM) said the pandemic had changed the lifestyle and their way of working. “We must continue with the new normal as the pandemic is not over yet,” said Dr SK Issar, ED I/c (M & HS).
