SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Modex units, Blast Furnace 8, Steel Melting Shop 3 (SMS 3), Universal Rail Mill and Bar & Rod Mill have recorded best ever production figures for the April to February period of fiscal year.
The Plant’s Blast Furnace 8 produced a record volume of 2,296,053 T of hot metal in April to Feb period of current fiscal year 2022-23, surpassing previous best record of 2,286,030 T in corresponding April to Feb period of last fiscal year 2021-22.
SMS 3 recorded its best ever production of 2,745,982 T of cast billets and cast blooms for the April to Feb period, surpassing previous best of 2,465,325 T in corresponding April to Feb period of last fiscal year 2021-22. SMS 3 produces billets for Bar & Rod Mill, Merchant Mill and Wire Rod Mill that roll out TMT and structural products and blooms for Universal Rail Mill to roll out world class rails.
During the April to Feb period of current fiscal year 2022-23, SMS 3 produced record volume of 1,688,200 Tonnes of cast billets as against previous best of 1,520,537 T in corresponding April to Feb period of last fiscal year 2021-22. During the same April to Feb period of current fiscal year, SMS 3 produced 1,057,127 Tonnes of cast blooms, surpassing previous best record of 944,788 T in April to Feb period of last fiscal year 2021-22.
Prime Rail production of 713,549 Tonnes by Universal Rail Mill in April to Feb period of current FY 22-23 has been the best ever. The previous best record was 567,313 T in April to Feb period of 2020-21. The long rail component of production by both URM and Rail & Strl Mill has also increased substantially. Total Loading of Long Rails by the Plant during April to Feb period of current FY has been 8,40,726 Tonnes, as against previous best of 522,667 T in April to Feb period of 2020-21.
Production at Bar & Rod Mill during April to Feb period at 747,200 Tonnes has also been the best ever for the period, surpassing previous best of 645,906 T in April to Feb period of 2021-22.
Refractory Material Plant 3, another Modex unit also recorded best ever April to Feb production of 4,46,532 T as against previous best of 3,64,757 T in corresponding period of 2021-22.
Sinter Production at the Plant’s Sinter Plant 3 in which a new sinter machine was installed as part of Plant’s Modex programme too recorded its best ever April to Feb production of 48,93,330 T of sinter as against previous best of 47,48,134 T in April to Feb period of 2021-22. The two sinter plants, SP 2 and SP 3 combined to produce record volume of 72,72,511 Tonnes during April to Feb period of current fiscal year.
