Raipur, June 11

Chairman SAIL Soma Mondal today visited the flagship entity of the company, the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) and the Dalli mines that feed raw material to the facility.

This was her maiden visit to the Bhilai Steel Plant after taking over as the Chairman of SAIL.

Accompanied by Director I/c SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant, Anirban Dasgupta and other senior officials of the Plant and Mines, the Chairman visited the sites of two important projects coming up at Dalli Mechanised Mines. She first visited the site for the upcoming expansion project of Modification in Washing Circuit of Crushing Screening and Washing Plant (CSWP) with silica reduction facility where she took stock of the progress.

With the depletion of iron ore reserves in all the mines of IOC, the quality of iron ore has deteriorated. Reduction in silica content in iron ore will enable gainful use of sub-grade iron ore by enhancing the quality of ore and thereby help improve production and productivity in the steel plant.

Soma Mondal also laid the foundation stone for the upcoming 1 MTPA Pellet Plant being set up on Build Own Operate (BOO) basis. The pellet plant will enable conversion of large volumes of slime lying at the bottom of Hitkasa tailing pond at Dalli Rajhara into pellets that would be used for hot metal production in the Plant. She also visited the mining areas in Dalli Rajhara.

The Chairman later met Mines Union representatives and public representatives. She was given a presentation on the performance of mines where she interacted at length with senior officers of mines about present performance and future plans.
