Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) Chairman Soma Mondal on Tuesday inaugurated a milk distribution scheme to be served to students in the mining project areas of the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP).
The Chairman landed here on Monday night on a two-day visit to Bhilai. She presided over various meetings at the DIC conference hall of Ispat Bhawan. As part of the CSR activities of BSP, the Chairman virtually launched the “Gift Milk Programme”.
According to BSP officials, over 3,000 students from various village schools in the four districts of Chhattisgarh namely Narayanpur, Kanker, Balod and Manpur-Mohla would be benefitted by the scheme. The Rowghat Mines Project of SAIL-Bhilai is under the administrative orbit of the four districts.
An MoU was executed for this scheme, in March 2023 between SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant and National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), to provide nutritious flavored milk to 3,000 students, during the lunch-time in the beneficiary schools. The milk packets will be supplied by Devbhog Milk of Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Dairy Federation.
Addressing the gathering virtually, Soma Mondal lauded Bhilai Steel Plant for this initiative and encouraged the students to study and play well and fulfil their dreams. She also appreciated the teachers for their role in nation building by educating the future of the country. “I am happy to see the smiling faces of children,” the Chairman added.
During her visit, she also inaugurated and dedicated the newly commissioned Rolling Mill Laboratory. The lab will facilitate the Plant’s Rolling Mill with various kinds of qualitative, strength, toughness and other tests through testing mechanisms like Qualifying Criteria Test Facility for Rails, Mechanical Testing equipment, Chemical Tests and Metallographic Test Equipment etc.
Chairman met the cross-section of newly inducted young Executives of the plant, followed by meeting with members of SAIL-BSP Officers Association and the members of the Worker’s Union and members of SC/ST Association. A virtual Trial Run of CSW Plant, Rajhra was also examined during the day.
Plant’s Senior Executive Officers displayed a presentation on the production and other activities of Bhilai Steel Plant, and various other issues were discussed with the Chairman in the meeting. Smt. Mondal also met with a cross-section of women employees of Bhilai Steel Plant.
