Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) Chairman Soma Mondal said that the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) had always been the most important unit of the state state-run steel maker.

“As such the organisation has high expectations from the Plant (BSP),” she said while addressing employees during her visit to various facilities. The SAIL Chairman is presently on a maiden visit to the BSP.

Addressing members of the Universal Rail Mill (URM) team, SAIL’s Director (Technical, Projects and Raw Materials) Harinand Rai, who is accompanying the Chairman, urged to enhance the daily production levels. The Chairman congratulated Team URM for successfully rolling out the new grade and profile of rails as per Indian Railway’s requirements.

“We all know that India runs on SAIL rails. You have done well, but we still have miles to go,” she added.

The Chairman visited Ore Handling Plant, Part B where she was briefed about the proposed Base Mix Plant. The Base mix plant that had been proposed to be located next to RMP 3 would help in proper mixing and homogenisation of raw materials including Iron ore with fluxes Dolomite, Limestone.

It would aid in blending and pre-preparing the mixture of raw materials by partially baking it. This would help in improved productivity, less material wastage and lead to reduction in return Sinter.
