SAIL, Rourkela achieves record saleable steel production in April-July of FY 2024-25

SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has registered best ever saleable steel production since inception in April to July period of the current financial year 2024-25.

The Steel Plant produced 14,00,582 tonnes of saleable steel  in the above period to register the record thereby improving upon earlier best performance of 13,81,750 tonnes achieved in the Corresponding Period Last Year (CPLY).  The Hot Strip Mill-2 produced 8,17,675 tonnes of HR Coils registering its best ever April-July performance.

The Sheet Shearing Line (SSL) of HSM-2 clocked its best single day production of 1157 tons on 18th July, 2024, surpassing the previous record of 1025 tons set on 30th June, 2024. SSL also posted the highest monthly production of 22,646 tons in July, 2024. The Blast Furnace – 5 “Durga’ registered the highest ever monthly production of 2,63,131 tons in July, 2024. The previous best of 262,115 tons was achieved in March 2024.

It is noteworthy that the Steel Plant has been strategically focusing on cost optimisation and improving productivity as well as techno-economics. The intensive efforts have helped in achieving the best ever average coke rate of 386 kilogram per ton of Hot Metal (KG/THM) with two Blast Furnaces in operation. The previous best coke rate of 393 kg/THM was achieved in April, 2018. A new high in Blast Furnace Shop productivity of 2.384 tonnes per cubic meter per day (T /m3/day) has also been achieved with 2 furnaces in operation improving upon the earlier best of 2.309 T/m3/day achieved in June, 2016.
