Rourkela, May 8
Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a pioneer unit of Maharatna Company Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has developed special grade steel for the ambitious North East Gas Grid PipeLine Project.
To meet the increasing demand for Oil and Gas that has necessitated high pressure gas transmission pipe lines for best transport efficiency, RSP successfully developed plates for API 5L X70 PSL-2 LSAW grade pipes, the company said in a statement. After successful trials and intensive quality tests, it had supplied more than 6000 tonnes of the import substitute special grade plates to Messers Wellspun Limited to be used in the North East Gas Grid PipeLine Project that will connect Guwahati to the major Northeast cities and major load centers. It is 1, 656 km long.
The North East Gas Grid will be connected to the national grid called the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Project. The project that will take clean energy to fuel industries, vehicles and households across the country is also a brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The RSP has been rendering an invaluable contribution in nation building by developing a wide range of newer grade import substitute products as well as high strength defence grade steel. Sustained focus on R&D and best in class manufacturing facilities has helped the Steel Plant to make foray into the elite league of special steel manufacturers to cater to the niche market. The unwavering efforts of the Steel Plant is helping the country in saving valuable foreign reserves, the company said in the statement, adding that it is also fortifying the ‘Make in India’ campaign and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ outlined by the Prime Minister.
With very positive response from the customer, RSP is all set to meet the requirements of the domestic as well as global customers in the segment.
