SAIL, Rourkela registers highest single day hot metal production with only two furnaces

SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has registered a fresh single day Hot Metal production record with two Blast Furnaces in operation.

The steel plant produced 13375 tonnes of Hot Metal on 11th September, 2024 to achieve the feat thereby surpassing the previous best of 13256 tonnes recorded on 15th August, 2024.  Notably, RSP has shut down Blast Furnace #4 and is currently operating only two Blast Furnaces namely BF#1 and BF#5. The BF#5 also surpassed the 10000 Ton hot metal production mark for the third time since inception by producing 10105 tonnes on 11th September. The performance from the furnaces bears more significance as the records have been achieved during the monsoon considered challenging times for the BF. 

On 12th September, 2024, Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge (DIC), RSP visited the BF#5 to congratulate the department collective as well as their associated units. He was accompanied by Tarun Misra, ED (HR) with additional charge of ED (Projects), A K Behuria, ED (F&A), B Pallai, CGM In Charge (Iron) & acting ED (Works) and many other CGMs and Senior Officers of RSP.

Congratulating the Blast Furnaces collective, Bhowmick lauded the efforts of all the associated departments and service providers. “Let’s add values to whatever we do and ensure doing the right things in the right way which will automatically translate into good results.” He also emphasized upon maintaining the health of the furnace by following the best maintenance and operation practices.  The DIC presented bouquets and sweets to the Blast Furnaces and supporting department collectives for achieving the record.

All the Executive Directors joined the Director In-Charge in congratulating the Blast Furnaces and associated Departments for the milestone and they also assured every possible support and help to make the production better. Senior Officers of BF#5 also spoke on the occasion and reiterated the resolve of the collective to sustain the momentum. Sumit Kumar, CGM (BF) thanked the supporting agencies for their synergized efforts and also the top management for their continuous support.

The feat was achieved due to the integrated team effort of all the associated departments like Sinter Plant, Raw Material Handling Plant, Coke Ovens, Traffic and Raw Material, Captive Power Plant, Oxygen Plant, Production Planning and Control Department and Research and Control Laboratory, the quality supply of raw materials and above all the determined efforts of the Blast Furnace collective.
