SAIL-Rourkela sets off fiscal with best April performance in key production areas

SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has kicked off the financial year 2023-24 with its best April performance since inception in key production areas.

The steel plant produced 3,73,484 tons of hot metal, 3,42,421 tons of crude steel, and 3,00,616 tons of saleable steel, which are the best for any April. Blast Furnace-5 registered its best April performance by producing 2,42,160 tons of hot metal, while Steel Melting Shop-I and Steel Melting Shop-II also achieved their best April performance by producing 44,013 tons and 2,98,408 tons of crude steel, respectively.

The Sinter Plants contributed significantly to this performance, supplying a total of 6,05,884 tons of sinter, which is a growth of 5.3 per cent over April 2022. Sinter Plant-3 also produced its best April performance by producing 312,188 tons of sinter in the opening month of the current fiscal year.

Besides, the state-of-the-art Hot Strip Mill-2 produced a total of 1,58,321 tons of HR Coils, which is its best April performance since inception. The Captive Power Plant-3 of RSP generated 76.5 MW of power, achieving the best April power generation in CPP-1 & 3.

Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, RSP has congratulated the collective on this outstanding performance and emphasized upon the need to maintain this performance and strive to improve it even further throughout the rest of the financial year while focusing on quality and safety, which are the pillars of their success.
