SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has successfully executed major critical up-gradations in many important units in the first two months of current financial year 2024-25.

The up gradation of Level-1 automation of Blast Furnace#5 (BF#5) was executed successfully. The Shot Creting in BF#5 was also executed and the furnace was successfully revived and production was normalised within 24 hours. The up gradation of PLC of Caster-1 of Steel Melting Shop-I was also successfully completed before schedule.

The Caster #3 HMI servers, clients and Engineering stations migration project were successfully completed. The overhauling of TRTG was taken up for the first time and completed successfully on 23rd May, 2024. The old and obsolete 1000kw HF Welder in ERWPP has been replaced with the latest state-of-the-art fully indigenous  1000 kw HF Welder which  will increase the mill speed up to 18 mpm and improved weld quality in ERWPP Pipes.

In a major boost to logistics, RSP has also inducted 2 rakes of BFNS 22.9 under LSFTO scheme in May, 2024. Out of 6 rakes, at present a total of 3 rakes of BFNS22.9 are operating for dispatching steel consignment.    The inauguration of the new outer loop track for Hot Strip Mill-II is another significant infrastructure augmentation, that aims to de-bottleneck the finished product dispatch process.

The facility can now handle an additional 20 to 22 wagons per day, enhancing the overall dispatch capacity. It also  helps in de-congesting the yard, making operations smoother and more streamlined.
