Rourkela, March 12
SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), in collaboration with LEADS, Ranchi, successfully concluded a three-month Livelihood Generation Training Programme in Kantha Stitching and Fabric Painting for underprivileged women of periphery villages.
Chief Guest CGM (TE& Horticulture) B K Jojo, RSP graced the occasion. Bivabasu Mallik GM (CSR), RSP, A K Singh, Director (LEADS), and other officials of RSP, LEADS and Block Officer were also present in the occasion. The closing ceremony of the programme was held recently at the Institute of Peripheral Development, at the CSR Office.
Addressing the gathering, Jojo congratulated the participants on successfully completing the training and appreciated their dedication. He emphasised the significance of such skill development initiatives in empowering women and preserving indigenous art forms like Kantha stitching and fabric painting.
Malik, in his address, highlighted the project’s achievements and reiterated RSP’s commitment to sustainable community development through skill-based livelihood programmes. He also shared success stories of the participants and acknowledged the support of LEADS and the local administration in implementing the project effectively.
T B Toppo, DGM (CSR) welcomed the gathering while A K Singh proposed a formal vote of thanks. The function was coordinated by Md Zahid Akhtar, Section Associate (CSR).
Notably, the initiative aims to enhance employable skills, promote tribal art, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for women in the region. During the three months course the master trainer provided hands-on instruction on the art of Kantha stitching and fabric painting, enabling women to create marketable products such as painted clothing, home décor, and accessories.
The trainees, selected from BPL households, are between 15-45 years of age and possess basic education with prior drawing skills.
