Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) a Unit of the Maharatna Company SAIL has set new benchmarks by registering its best-ever performance in several key production areas during the first quarter (April–June 2025) of the current financial year.
During this period, RSP produced 10,09,657 Tons of Crude Steel, surpassing its previous record of 10,02,960 Tons achieved in Q1 of FY 2023-24. The Steel Melting Shop-II also achieved a milestone by producing 8,98,495 Tons of Crude Steel, its highest-ever first-quarter output, exceeding the previous best of 8,87,894 Tons recorded in Q1 of FY 2022-23.
Caster-III was the major contributor in this feat casting 4,11,860 Tons of slabs to register its best ever Q1 performance. Blast Furnace-5 ‘Durga’ tapped 8,23,415 Tons of Hot Metal, registering its highest-ever April–June output and achieving a remarkable 18 per cent growth over the corresponding period last year (CPLY). Similarly, Blast Furnace-1 ‘Parvati’ tapped 2,67,759 tonnes, marking a significant growth of 27.3 per cent over CPLY.
The Sinter Plants together produced 17,89,481 Tons of Sinter, surpassing the previous record of 17,77,439 Tons achieved in Q1 of FY 2022-23.
On the downstream side, the Hot Strip Mill-2 rolled out 6,61,487 Tons of HR Coils, recording its highest-ever Q1 production and achieving a 9.5 per cent growth over CPLY. The New Plate Mill and the Plate Mill also set new benchmarks with productions of 2,38,690 Tons and 1,36,622 Tons, respectively, both their best first-quarter performances. Also, the New Sheet Shearing Line of HSM-2 achieved its best Q1 output with 71,819 Tons of HR Sheets.
Alok Verma, Director In-Charge (DIC), RSP with the additional charge of Durgapur Steel Plant and IISCO Steel Plant appreciated the collective for their outstanding performance and urged them to sustain the momentum to create new benchmarks in the coming days.
