SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant registers ‘Best-ever’ H1 production performance in key areas

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the Maharatna company SAIL has registered its ‘best-ever’ H1 (first half or six months of the financial year) production performance in the three key areas viz.  Hot Metal, Crude Steel and Saleable Steel.

The steel plant produced 22,12,182 Tonnes of hot metal, 20,33,619,Tonnes of crude steel and 20,78,176 Tonnes of saleable steel during the first six months of the current fiscal, registering an impressive growth of 3.9%, 2.1% and a massive 13.1% respectively over the corresponding period last year (CPLY). Besides, sinter production (35,16,146 Tonnes) and average combined power generation from CPP-1 & CPP-3 (71.06 MW) during the period were also the best ever performance since inception of the steel plant.

The success was replicated in dispatch too. By dispatching 20,86,078 tonnes of saleable steel, RSP clocked its best ever dispatch for the first six months and improved its last year’s record by 13.01 per cent.

Many units of the plant achieved their ABP targets for the month of September. The state-of-the-art Hot Strip Mill-2 rolled 212021 tonnes of total HR Coils to record best monthly production in September, 2023. The New Plate Mill also rolled 83217 tonnes of plates to register its best Production for any September month.

It is worth mentioning here that RSP also registered best monthly despatch of finished steel by dispatching 357537 tons in September, 2023 by rail and road. The Pipe Plant (SW) produced 403 tonnes of SW Pipes on 15th September, 2023 to clock its best production for any September month.

Congratulating the Rourkela Steel Plant collective on this stupendous achievement, Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, RSP has said that, “Let’s keep on excelling in the field of production as well as in other vital areas like safety, quality and, house-keeping. However we need to focus on further cutting down our cost of production so as to stay competitive in the market. ”
