Rourkela, February 2

The Continuous Casting Machine-3 (CCM-3) of Steel Melting Shop-II department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has created a new record in the longest sequence of heats.

The all-time best performance was achieved by CCM-3 with casting of a record 186 heats during the sequence.

The Continuous Casting Machine-2 (CCM-2) went for a five-day capital repair on January 26, posing challenges for CCM-3 to run uninterruptedly for the period to maintain constant output. The team comprising operation, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation took up the challenge and the Caster-3 sequence started on 26th January at evening 5:26 hrs.

The Sequence culminated on 1st February 2022 at afternoon 2:36 hrs with a total casting time of 141 hours and 10 minutes. In the process, 186 heats were cast leading to a crude steel production of 29757 tons and 1119 slabs. The Secondary Steel Units and Basic Oxygen Furnace contributed immensely in achieving the success by feeding heats at the right time, at right temperature and with right chemistry.

The record yet again exemplifies the unmatched determination of the RSP collective who has time and again shown their brilliance to help the plant soar new highs.
