SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has signed a contract with Messers MECON Limited, Ranchi on 16th March, 2026 for “Appointment of Consultant for Preparation of Feasibility Report (FR) and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Greenfield Expansion of RSP”.
The contract was signed in the presence of Rahul Agarwal, CGM (Projects) and officiating ED (Projects), A.K. Sahu, CGM (Proj-Commercial), RSP and other senior officers of RSP and Messers MECON Limited.
The consultancy agreement has been envisaged for increasing RSP’s crude steel production by 5.0 MTPA and Hot Metal production by 5.15 MTPA through setting up of a Greenfield Expansion project. The scope of work under the contract includes preparation of feasibility Report (FR) and Detailed Project Report (DPR), Soil investigation work, Topographical survey, Obtaining Environment clearance for Expansion of RSP.
The engagement of Messers MECON Limited, a premier engineering consultancy organization, will facilitate comprehensive techno-economic evaluation and detailed planning for the expansion initiatives of RSP. The studies and surveys carried out under the contract will provide the necessary technical inputs and statutory clearances required for implementation of the expansion projects of RSP.
This step marks a significant milestone towards the Greenfield Expansion of RSP, aimed at strengthening its production capacity, improving operational efficiency and supporting the long-term growth strategy of SAIL.
The initiative reflects RSP’s commitment towards systematic planning, adoption of modern technologies and sustainable industrial development in line with the future expansion vision of the plant.
