The major production units of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have posted impressive performance in the first seven months of the financial year 2025–26.
The Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) rolled 15,43,820 tonnes of HR Coils, achieving its best-ever April–October performance, surpassing the previous best of 14,97,726 tonnes achieved during the corresponding period last year (CPLY). Simultaneously, the Sheet Shearing Line of HSM-2 registered its best-ever April–October performance by making 1,80,075 tonnes of HR Plates.
Similarly, the New Plate Mill rolled out 5,91,726 tonnes of plates in the same period, which is its highest ever April–October performance, improving upon the earlier best of 5,43,174 tonnes achieved in the CPLY.
In the upstream area, Blast Furnace-5 “Durga” produced 18,74,912 tonnes of Hot Metal during April–October 2025, recording a 5.2% growth over the CPLY. Blast Furnace-1 also set a new benchmark by tapping 6,49,913 tonnes of Hot Metal, surpassing its previous best of 5,76,405 tonnes achieved during the same period last year.
The first seven months of the current fiscal also witnessed RSP surpassing several other milestones in production and project implementation. Notably, the first slab casting from the new ultra-modern Caster-4 of Steel Melting Shop-2 was successfully carried out on 13th October 2025, marking the completion of the project in a record time of 44 months from the date of signing of the contract.
Adding to the list of records, HSM-2 rolled 9,734 tonnes of slabs to produce 9,527 tonnes of HR Coils on 10th October, 2025, setting a new single-day production record. Continuing its upward trajectory, RSP produced 3,61,795 tonnes of saleable steel in October 2025, achieving its best-ever October performance.
These achievements reflect the collective commitment, efficiency, and teamwork of the RSP collective towards sustained excellence and productivity growth.
